Not suitable for Marvel

Deadpool is one of marvels forgotten hero’s re-born in this 3rd person fighting game. This hero is known for his foul-mouthed and not so much boyish but more cheeky nature. The game is made by HIGHMOON studios who have brought us the transformers game series, the Bourne Conspiracy game and Darkwatch all of which are high standard games.

The Story

The game knows what it’s about and the storyline is pretty thin. The main consistency of the game is the jokes and the side-gameplay where Deadpool can interact with people and objects around him. But after a short-time playing the game the jokes become familiar and the interactions become very much the same. This makes most people just want to finish what there is of the story and just put down the controller.

Gameplay

Deadpool has a basic action game fighting style. The camera follows him around in a third-person shot so all the animations are in full view. Now … although there isn’t much about the general fighting mechanics that’s exciting the game has a fast enough pace with enough action in it to keep you entertained. Deadpool has a variety of weapons between swords and guns which can be upgraded with points collect through the game each weapon has it’s own unique characteristic including the gun making each weapon fun as it forces you to adapt your fighting technique. There are stealth kills attained by as the name suggests not being seen by your enemy and hitting them from behind, and each weapon has their own animation for the stealth kills. The game itself isn’t very challenging however there are more than enough bad guys in it to prevent utter boredom.

Visuals

The game isn’t the prettiest on the market but that can be put down to it’s cheesy and over exaggerating comic book style. The animations are fun and colourful however the rest of the game seems to have a pretty dull colour scheme. Occasionally the camera doesn’t angle the way it should or glitches out but i’m certain this will be patched and the game shouldn’t be discredited for this rare occurrence. The other marvel characters in the game are also very well designed and the combat is very eye-catching.

Audio

The scripting for Deadpool isn’t very exciting in itself but Nolan North the voice of Deadpool brings life to the character with the way he delivers his lines. The background music just blurs into the feel of the game but there are very clever uses of some licensed music to look out for. Deadpool himself has a lot of very cheeky lines especially when interacting with other people his dialogue in terms of interactions or comments on objects he can also interact with are hilarious and brought the characters general theme into the light.

In general

People who are looking for hardcore action, this won’t be for you. Fans of the Deadpool comic haven’t rebelled in insult and have in fact welcomed the game with open arms. Deadpool showcases exemplary gameplay and the combat really serves it well but the thin storyline does undercut it a little. It’s a good excuse for some button mashing with some high intensity combat and is a good 7-8 hour game for a bit of nonsensical fun.

The verdict

A light game to be enjoyed in downtime from high investiture games and is definitely something worth a try but it won’t be a huge blockbuster remembered for years to come.

Story – 5/10
Gameplay -9/10
Visuals – 8/10
Audio – 7/10
